I recently completed some VMWare training, earning me the VTSP accreditation. VTSP stands for VMWare Technical Sales Professional, and is something that is available to members of the VMWare Partner network.
No, this doesn’t mean that I am going to start selling VMWare. What it does mean is that I can start taking steps towards gaining more in depth experience and knowledge with VMWare products. My company (Confio Software) makes a product named IgniteVM, which ties into vCenter in order to display performance details at the host, guest, and database level. As more and more customers purchase our software I needed to become more and more proficient at VMWare and obtaining the VTSP was one way to gain some knowledge.
Of course having the knowledge is only part of the equation, the next step is to start gaining some experience. I’ve been doing that on my own, having built up a small-ish VM farm on my laptop recently. It has really helped me when I walk through a customer’s data and help them resolve performance issues in the environment.
I am thinking about continuing on and getting more VM certifications, but I still have one eye set on the MCM as well.
