Anyone Else Want a Dream Job?

Remember how a year ago I hit the job lotto? Probably not, but it happened. And just like the Weather Channel would have you believe, it can happen to you tomorrow. How? Simple: Confio Software is hiring.

There are two jobs I want to bring to your attention. First up would be the one titled as “Pre-Sales DBA“. Yeah, not the best title, but being a small software company we get to make things up as we go. So, forget the title for now, and forget all the Oracle references (although having Oracle experience would be a benefit), and focus on these things:

  • You get to work for an amazing company that is growing at an exciting rate
  • You get to work with a variety of database platforms (MSSQL, Oracle, Sybase ASE, DB2)
  • You get to interact with customers and help solve interesting performance issues
  • Your feedback will help shape the direction of Confio products
  • You get to travel and speak at events such as user groups and SQL Saturdays

If you have been waiting for your chance to have your own dream job then look no further. The job listing is a good idea of the things I do on a daily basis (as well as blogging and other marketing needs) and I wouldn’t trade this job for any other. It’s perfect for me and I suspect that it would be perfect for one of you as well.

The other job I want to bring to your attention is not currently listed on the website. Confio is also looking for a Product Manager, and experience with databases or VMware would be a plus. Here are some of the bullet items for the job opening as I understand them:

  • Identify market problems, looking for unsolved problems that are both urgent and pervasive and that people are willing to pay to solve.
  • Monitor and analyze solution metrics to assess how well solutions perform, including actual to planned revenue, usage stats, operations SLAs, customer satisfaction, market share and product profitability.
  • Define Solution Vision that supports strategic plan.
  • Conduct market research on users around a specific solution innovation and describe the solution to be offered to the market, including solution positioning and market messaging for key buyers.
  • Prepare business cases for proposed solutions, providing an objective analysis of a potential new market opportunity to be used as a basis for investment decisions.
  • Develop/oversee release plans showing key stage gate milestones for each project, working with development to deliver on those plans
  • Create market-facing roadmap’s to communicate vision.
  • Evaluate opportunities for extending our solutions, including business cases to support the recommendation and ongoing management of the partnerships.
  • Champion user centered design, ensuring that our solutions are based on best practices
  • Create Market Requirements documents that communicates what problem we are solving and who we are solving it for
  • Plan and deliver solution training to internal staff to support launch.
  • Manage customer advisory groups around specific markets / solutions to discuss existing solutions and future innovation ideas.

If you are interested in the DBA job, please apply through the Confio website as that will put you in touch with all the right people and get you started on the process. If you are interested in the Product Manager job, drop me an email along with your resume and I will pass your information up the chain.
