Here’s the blog post I wanted to publish about five minutes after we had the PASS officer elections last Thursday:
If you are like me then you find it hard to pick a favorite quote from Calvin Coolidge, but the title to this blog post is easily in my top three favorites. And not just because it once served as the name of a local road race. It is because I do not choose to run for the PASS Board of Directors this year, despite my term expiring at the end of December.
I have served on the PASS Board of Directors as a Director-at-large for the past three years. There is no doubt in my mind that having served the PASS Community in various capacities for over six years has been rewarding for myself both professionally and personally. I can only hope that I have been able to help others to the same degree as I have been helped all these years.
However there does come a time when you know that a change is needed. That time is now, so you won’t be seeing my name on the ballot later this year. I am not stepping away from PASS entirely, I am just moving on to the next phase.
I look forward to the upcoming PASS Summit, and seeing old friends and new in Seattle this October.
But I couldn’t post it right away and instead had to wait six days AND until the general announcement came out in the PASS Connector around 2PM ET. And before you get any wrong ideas, the post was meant as a joke, because I am not leaving but moving into a new role.
So by now you know the deal: I will be taking over as the VP of Marketing for PASS as of January. Yes, I am just as surprised as you are. And yes, this means there will be some new blood on the board next year, as someone needs to fill the seat I am leaving behind. Will it be you? I sure hope so.
I am looking forward to all of the challenges the next two years will bring, along with all of the great things we will accomplish together.
Big congrats on the new role. I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with. 🙂 Thank you for all the work you continue to do and have done for the community.
Thanks, and thank YOU for all you have done as well.
Congrats. Thanks for serving our community.
Thanks Karen!
Congratulations Tom. Way to step up. Thanks for all you have done and all you’re about to do.
You’re a better man than I am Gunga Tom.
I may be better, but you’re scarier.
Dude!
You’re on the Trilateral Commission!
That’s awesome!
Next stop, Emperor Palpatine!
w00t!
Chuck,
That’s perfect, thanks!
Good News.
Congratulations sir!
The honesty and openness with which you have shared your involvement/experiences with PASS has been a real eye opener, providing the community with a previously unseen insight. Its transparency such as this that I believe will play a pivotal part in determining the success of PASS (from the perspective of the community) going forward.
It’s not been easy and there have been some particularly tricky subjects to play with. I for one really do appreciate all that you do for our community and I continue to expect only great things from you, so no pressure 🙂
Thanks John! I don’t feel ANY pressure, none!
VP of Marketing–whoa! I feel like you can do a lot with that 🙂
My favorite Calvin Coolidge quote is “You lose,” said in response to a flirtatious flapper-type who told him she’d bet her friend she could get him to say more than two words.
Claire,
Yes, that is a good one as well. Which is weird since he gave so many interviews while President, you would have thought he would have been more of a talker.
Vice President? So that means if Graz dies, you take over?
Seriously, congrats. Looking forward to the new leadership.
Congratulations. The extra work and time required for this position is big – but I am sure you’ve got the juice!!!
I am very proud of you and your achievements.
