Good Way To Start Your Day

I have a lot of things to read on a daily basis. Some of them are recreational, but most of them are aligned with my technical interests. It is rare for me to have the time to sit down and read one book from cover to cover. So I have started reading a handful of books just one section at a time. And some other books I simply pick up, open to a random page, and learn (or re-learn) something new.

One such book is SQL Server 2008 Query Performance Tuning Distilled by Grant Fritchey (blog | twitter) and Sajal Dam. Each morning, while I wait for my desktop to boot, I pick up their book, turn to any page, and just start reading.

Give it a try for yourself. Unless your name is Paul Randal, I bet you’ll learn something new most days of the week.

  1. Even Paul Randal can learn from this one. He’s an engine guy, and readily admits not being as familiar with a query plan tool. I learned a LOT from this work. Great job on that.
