More Chainblogging

Looks like I have been tagged again, this time by Dennis Gobo who wants to know some details of my childhood. The question this time is “what was your first computer and what were some of your favorite games”. I have no idea why Denis wants such intimate details of my early childhood. I can only think he is going to steal a hair sample and try to recreate me in a lab which sounds cool except then I would have to file an additional tax return every year which is not as much fun as it sounds.

Anyway, my first ever computer that I paid for with my own money was a Commodore VIC-20. I wrote a handful of very simple programs in BASIC, had a cassette tape attachment for loading some games, and had some additional game cartridges. I remember I had a book with some BASIC programs and you would copy the program line for line. Of course, being a book, the syntax was not always perfect, so this forced me into debugging code at a very early age. I also remember taking the code in the book and modifying it, changing some of the lines of text to be more to my liking.

My favorite game by far was Omega Race. I also enjoyed the arcade version of this game. In fact, I was playing arcade video games for a good six or seven years before I ever got the VIC-20. And no, Dennis didn’t ask, but at some point around the same time as I had my VIC-20 still running I held the world record in Gyruss, but by the time I mailed in my score someone else had claimed a higher score. Yeah, mailed, that’s how long ago we are talking.

So, I have been involved with computers and games for just about my entire life. Kinda explains a lot, huh?

I have no idea if these people have been tagged already or not. If yes, great. If not, then get to work.
