Dear Vendor

I honestly do not know what to say. How did it come to this point? We once had something wonderful, a relationship based upon trust and mutual respect. But now…now it is as if I do not know who you are anymore.

Why the need to always be in control? Why do you insist on being a member of the system administrators fixed server role when all you claim to do is need to read and write to tables only inside of your database? What’s that? Oh, you sometimes need to create a new database? Yes, we talked about that already. And even that permission does not require you to be a sysadmin. Did you even know that other fixed server roles exist?

I feel like you are hiding something from me. What else are you doing to my instance? And why insist on connecting as sa and putting the password into a plain text file? Every time I see you doing that I always hear that song by Nirvana, Rape Me, playing in my mind.

I have had enough. You can sleep in the server room tonight until you learn how to treat me with some respect.

Continue to the next Dear Vendor letter.
