Carbon Offsets and Religion

Just read an article by Duncan Clark, writing for Ode magazine, who credits George Monbiot with the comparison of carbon offsets to the ancient Catholic Church’s practice of selling indulgences. Sure, the link is two years old, and perhaps everyone has already read these comments before today. Sorry if I am late to the game on this, but I thought the link was worth passing along.

“Buying and selling carbon offsets is like pushing the food around on your plate to create the impression that you have eaten it.”

Brilliant. Why can’t I write like that? Perhaps it has something to do with why I was a math major.
