If I’m not mistaken, professional etiquette dictates that you always wear a coat and tie (for males) or a dress/womens suit (for females) to an interview. While I do agree that that it may possible to overdress, I would presonally err on the side of caution and attempt to make a good first impression. I would never consider wearing anything other than a suit to interview for an office position. The only time that I’ve made an exception was when I received a last minute call to interview at lunch, at which point I explained that I was casually dressed and would be unable to return home and change in the time period prior to the meeting. That interview went extremely well and I ended up getting the job.
