At my first Summit in 2004, I did not attend one vendor party (I have more than made up for that since). But at the next Summit in 2005 in Dallas, I knew to sign up for the party hosted by SQL Server Central. They were having a casino night and I knew it would be good for me to go and meet new people.
I remember a few of the people there, some were of a higher profile category (lots of people congregated around them) but most of the people there all seemed to be like me; they came for some free food and fun. And prizes. Turns out that there were lots of prizes to be had.
So there I am, standing at the craps table, and it is my turn with the dice. Over comes Brian Knight with a prize package (a digital photo frame, at the time worth about $150) and he says the following:
“Next person to roll a seven wins the prize.”
Apparenlty Brian knows as much about craps as I do, because another player quickly responded by pointing at me while yelling to Brian:
“He has to roll a seven at some point, because he’s the shooter!”
Brian paused, thought, and took the path of least resistance by saying “well, I already said it, so I guess he’ll win it!”
And you know what?
I did win it.
Yea me!
Thanks again Thomas, really enjoying the post a day on SQL PASS series. Wishing I could have made it this year.
