SQL Excursions Sessions – Top 11 New Things in SQL 11 (Denali)

Today is the fifth and final preview for my sessions at the upcoming SQL Excursions in Napa. A quick recap of the previous four:

  1. Query Performance Tuning Made Easy
  2. SQL Server Memory Management
  3. Powershell
  4. Resource Governor

I like lists. I like lists a lot. I use lists frequently. I like them so much I started keeping a list of the top SQL bloggers (a list which is, in my opinion, nothing scientific, so please NO WAGERING). So when Denny asked me if I wanted to do a session on the next version of SQL Server (code named ‘Denali’), I jumped at the chance.

But instead of just doing a highlight of some new items, or a Top Ten list, I thought I would do something a little bit edgier, you know, like counting UP TO ELEVEN. That’s right, in Napa I am going to share with you my Top Eleven Favorite New Things in SQL11!

Abstract:

I will list, and discuss, my favorite top eleven new things in SQL 11.

What this really means:

You’ll see a list of eleven items, hear me say their names out loud, and we will walk through examples of each while discussing their usage in various scenarios.

Three things you will learn:

  1. You’ll actually learn 11 things.
  2. Unless you already knew some of them, like contained databases, in which case you’ll learn slightly less than 11 things.
  3. Chances are it will be more than three things, though.

It’s like going to camp. We’ll even tell scary stories around a campfire at night.
