SQL Excursion Sessions – Resource Governor

Following the posts from Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, today I will continue with a preview of the sessions I will be giving at the upcoming SQL Excursions event in Napa.

OK, let’s talk Resource Governor!

Abstract:

As more and more shops look to consolidate their systems (and database servers) it is becoming increasingly important to ensure that performance remains consistent. One way to achieve that consistency is through the use of Resource Governor. Introduced with SQL 2008, this feature allows for you to better manage the workload on your database server.

What this really means:

I’ll show you how to use Resource Governor and discuss various scenarios where the use of Resource Governor would be warranted.

Three things you will learn:

  1. How to configure Resource Governor resource pools, workload groups, and classifier functions.
  2. How to best determine Resource Governor requirements.
  3. How to monitor Resource Governor usage and statistics.

It’s like going to camp. We’ll even tell scary stories around a campfire at night.
