I had my latest article go live over at Simple-Talk recently. It is the story of a boy who finds himself in Seattle, mesmerized by the Highlander, entertained by the court jester, and coming to the realization that Powershell Is Good (P.I.G., codename: Bacon). In the end the boy finds a way to build his own Powershell scripts that create charts in Excel automatically because, hey, pressing fewer buttons is always a better idea.

I think PowerShell is great. In an era where globalization and “the Cloud” mean that one day (may it never come, btw, but I suffer from perceiving reality…) our proudly held DBA skills will be a commodity.
PowerShell helps us fight back and allows us to automate the mundane tasks and make possible the difficult tasks that would otherwise require tremendous amounts of time and effort.
I am into PowerShell in a big way, and I think that if you’re a smart DBA – you’ll get some PowerShell under your belt as well.
