A few weeks back I had the good fortune to attend a seminar at which John Kelbley was presenting. He happened to mention that he had recently finished a book on Hyper-V (OK, he mentioned it a dozen times), and I made a note to include it in my library.
I have been spending the past few weeks at work focusing on a server consolidation effort. Part of that effort will be the virtualization of our systems, when possible. Right now we are going with VMWare, but we have an eye on Hyper-V as it evolves as well. Regardless of whatever solution your company is using (or will be using), the knowledge and information in this book serves as a good base for anyone that wants to learn more about virtualization.
Personally, I would avoid the use of DPM for now, but only because I am paranoid about things I don’t understand. So instead I will have to rely on the experiences of others to help me along in my journey. But John was able to convince me that I need to spend some time learning to love DPM, because together with Hyper-V it could very well be the future of virtualized MS SQL database servers.
If you get a chance to get your hands on a copy of this book, it is worth a quick read.
