Denver – Day Two

Today is the day that is set aside for Volunteer Training. About forty or so PASS Volunteers get together and spend the day discussing various topics about PASS in general. The best part of the day are the parts where we break out into smaller, more focused groups, to discuss any necessary issues. The advantage here is that the meeting is taking place physically, as opposed to the virtual meetings we have during the rest of the year. Today was a very good day for us as well because as a group we reviewed some of the survey comments collected from PASS members and tried to come up with some solutions. I think the entire day was very positive, and it might be the best thing we do as a group. Well, okay, the best thing might be the Volunteer Outing. But this is the most constructive thing we do that is specific for PASS as a whole.

After that it was off to the Speaker Orientation meeting, followed by the Welcome Reception and the SQL Server Central soiree. Then, as usual, it was off to the karaoke club. We had about a dozen in our group, maybe even more, and made the trek across town. It was a shorter walk than what we did in Seattle last year, and it was well worth it. The atmosphere was much different than last year. For example, the bathroom did not have a couch, which was disappointing. And the Croz did not join us either. But we did have a good time regardless.

I do not think they allow smoking in the bar, but most of my memories of the place are hazy. Maybe the Jägermeister on tap had something to do with much of the night being hazy? Probably. But on the plus side, when I got back to my room I found out that my room was upgraded to one with a spinning bed. Very cool.
