Additional Resource Added!

I have added an additional resource to my resourcedb group on my rankings page. I’ll give you one guess as to who would be bumped up to join Paul (blog | twitter) and Kim (blog | twitter) in that group? Did you guess already? Was it Brent (blog | twitter)? If so, nicely done. If not, go back to sleeping on the couch to the endless drones of vuvuzelas while watching grown men kick a ball past each other in the spirit of world domination.

Well, as it turns out, waiting six weeks since the last update was the perfect amount of time. We had a handful of people get shuffled around this time, one person was dropped, and four new bloggers are listed. Will it be you? Are you one of the bloggers that I have set my sights on? Or perhaps you are the one that got dropped like a *ahem* temp table?

Last night I attended the AtlantaMDF meeting where Brad McGehee (blog | twitter) was presenting on being an Exceptional DBA. During the talk he mentioned my Blogger Rankings which got me thinking “Dammit! I haven’t updated those in a while!”

Truthfully, I did try to update them a few weeks back, but found that there was not much to change at the time so I left things alone. But last night I went back and looked at everyone’s progress and decided it was time to make a few changes. I was also quite close to including some new blood, as I have had a handful of blogs come my way that are quite good and I could see them in my tempdb before too long.

As always…no wagering!

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say that I have added Andy Leonard to the ‘model’ list of bloggers. In the past few months his posts have struck a chord with me. They probably resonate even more because after the last Summit Andy and I were able to pass time between flights together. We spent about an hour talking about various topics. I sure hope I get that chance again someday.

OK, updated once again. Discuss amongst yourselves. I have come across roughly 15 new bloggers in the past six weeks. Well, new to me, but most of the names are recognizable. I’ll keep my eye on them and include them when the time is right.

Nobody was promoted this time around. As the old saying goes “either publish, or perish”.

I updated my blog rankings today. Joe Webb and Jorge Segarra are moving up, and Jason Strate gets to stick around because he can make the pizza. If you weren’t at SQLKaraoke then that last sentence makes no sense.

I am going to try my best to update the page a little more frequently than I have been doing in the past. Clearly I have been too nice to some “bloggers” who are not doing any actual blogging. Look for more quick and frequent movements. I’m not looking to hurt anyone’s feelings, I just want people to be aware of who is doing good work right now as opposed to who did some good work a few months ago.

As always, if there is a blog you think I should consider reviewing, just let me know. I have about 100 blogs outside of those listed and I look at them every day. If someone out there is doing good work and you think they should be listed just drop me an email and that will get them on my radar. And yes, you can even write to tell me about your blog but don’t bother asking me to include you in the rankings if you are only posting a few things every other month.

Updated SQL Blogger Rankings

It took a couple of days longer than I would have liked, but I got the rankings updated. We have some movement this time around. Two people got promoted, three got placed under the line, and some others got called out for being lazy. I have noticed that many blogs have gone the past six weeks or so with fewer than normal entries. I hope that trend does not continue.

I also hope that I can meet with each and every blogger at PASS in six weeks. I have been following all of you for about a year now and would like to say “thank you” in person.

I wanted to get this done before the Bastille Day celebrations got in the way, so the Rankings have been updated. Not much movement, but enough for some people to (hopefully) take notice. I just have no more time to carry the load for anyone else. Either lose your life and start blogging or be left behind.

I have updated the rankings page, we had a few people move around since the last update. We also have two new faces to welcome into the tempdb, which is now full and will need to have someone dropped because my disk is not large enough. As always, refer to the FAQ page if you need help understanding anything. And if that doesn’t answer your question then you can always refer to the First Rule. You’re welcome.
