Walk Your Own Path

I enjoy browsing TED talks from time to time. I found this one to hit home for me. The video is about 18 minutes long but worth it in my opinion for this particular quote from the grade school teacher of the speaker (Ben):

“Ben lacks sufficient impetus to achieve anything worthwhile.”

I suppose we could debate if it was worthwhile to ski to the North Pole, but I don’t think there is much question about Ben having sufficient impetus to achieve something.

Ben goes on to conclude that “No one else is the authority on your potential” and “You are the only one that decides how far you go.”

He is absolutely correct. We all have outside influences in our life that seek to derail us from the path that we choose to walk. But it is our path to walk, not anyone else’s, and therefore no one else should tell us how to walk that path.

Be the best you that you want to be, and in the manner in which you want.

Don’t let anyone tell you different.

  1. Great short post here. Really like the content. Really wanted to start my DBA career since graduating, but not even close after 4+ years. I could use some motivational articles like this. Thanks!
