The Greatest Delay Ever

Many of you may recall that I have a Golden Ticket. With the shuttle launch and Tweetup scheduled to take place during Halloween weekend we decided to make it a family mini-vacation. Last Friday we picked up the Junior Senators from school and told them that we were taking them with us to the airport and flying to Florida. Even before we had boarded the plane I knew the shuttle was delayed at least 24 hours.

And I could not think of a better situation for me.

See, I was not looking forward to being away from my children on Sunday while I was at the NASA Tweetup. Why? Because that was the day that Congress was planning to take them to the most magical place on Earth. It broke my heart thinking that I would not be there as they roamed through the Magic Kingdom for the first time in their lives and doing so without holding my hand as I was 50 miles away playing with rockets. With the delay everything got pushed back, including the Tweetup, giving me Sunday with my children.

And it was a wonderful day.

See, this is off-season for Florida tourism, which kept the crowds to a minimum even on Halloween. There was never a wait for any ride. I walked right onto Space Mountain. My daughter and I waited ten minutes for Splash Mountain. My son and I waited ten minutes for the Haunted Mansion. Little to no waiting, a beautiful warm day, lots of magic in the air, and lots of great memories. We did lots of rides, saw lots of shows, had lots of laughs and even got an autograph from Buzz Lightyear.

And all because of a pressure leak.

Awesome.

Thanks NASA, and thanks for the events that are yet to come.
