Just over two years ago I helped put together the following poster that detailed some of the more useful system stored procedures found in SQL 2005:
I have a handful of the posters laying around my cubical and my office at home. I suppose I should give them away whenever I am speaking, but I never think to pack them. I had not thought much about the poster until I saw this blog post recently:
http://adventuresinsql.com/2010/04/how-do-i-identify-invalid-or-unneeded-logins/
Once I read the post I started to think about the poster, because until I put that poster together I never knew about the sp_validatelogins stored procedure. And once I started to think about the poster I started to recall how much has changed for me in these past 28 months. This is a rough idea of the things I have done in and around the SQL community since the day that poster was published:
- written 23 articles
- participated in 5 webcasts and a handful of podcasts
- presented at user groups and conferences 7 times
- became a SQL MVP
- elected to the PASS Board of Directors
- wrote a book
- helped get a user group started
And I keep thinking how it really all got started with that poster. I owe a great deal to Kevin Kline for all of this, and I doubt I could ever say ‘Thank You’ enough times. But there is one thing I can tell him…and you…
I’m tired.
*YAWN*
If anyone would like a copy of the poster, let me know. I will try to bring some to SQL Saturday in NYC on April 24th, and I can have some mailed out if necessary.
